Family Pizza Clacton customers write song lyrics in the request box

TAKEAWAY customers have “made January a little more bearable” for workers at a pizzeria after entering song lyrics into the “Special Request” section of their orders.

Family Pizza Clacton received an online order for two large pizzas, a portion of garlic bread, dips and a drink.

But when the ticket was generated and printed in-store, its extra-long length caught the eye of a cook, who noticed a trial of words at the bottom.

Upon inspection, it was determined that the client had written the entire lyrics for Tribute by Tenacious D – a band fronted by actor Jack Black – under the “special request” category.

Matt Margerison, 46, who has worked at Family Pizza Clacton in Old Road for two years, said: ‘When I first saw the ticket I was like, ‘What the hell that?

“Usually the requests are quite short, people asking us to ring their phone because their doorbell is broken or to remove some ham and add pepperoni.

“One of the managers then decided to post a message on social media and then we found out it was a song – we all laughed and thought it was a great idea.

“Client apparently told our driver he did it for New Years fun.”

Since spreading some cheer by publicizing the cheeky request, Family Pizza Clacton has received more light orders.

The next day, one of the receipts featured the chorus of John Denver’s Take Me Home, Country Roads.

Two other posts were then treated with the lyrics of Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley and Is This The Way to Amarillo by Tony Christie.

“It’s been a lot of fun and made January a little more bearable,” added Matt, who handles everything from taking orders to organizing the riders.

“The website has been updated and the request box has been shortened now, but we have requested that it be lengthened again for this reason.

“It made a nice change from the usual requests.

“We would like to thank everyone who brightened up the cold, dark winter evening with a few songs.”
