Mooresville Pie In The Sky Pizza closes its doors

MOORESVILLE, NC (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – The past two days at Pie In The Sky Pizza in downtown Mooresville have been busy, and for good reason.

This week they posted a notice on social media saying that on May 22n/athey would close following redevelopments and renovations in the space they currently rent.

Ever since then, people have been clamoring for a slice.

“It was unexpected and it’s very overwhelming,” said Tim Whitener, who started the business at its North Main Street location in 1986.

“I have no idea we could have prepared for this at all,” his wife Tammy Whitener said.

The Facebook post has been shared hundreds of times and even caught the attention of Dale Earnhardt, Jr. The Whiteners said he had been coming to the restaurant since he was a teenager.

Regarding the news they released about the closure, Tim Whitener said that they had known for about a year that it would happen and were hoping to get a new location in downtown Mooresville. So far, however, they have not succeeded.

“We’ve done 36 years downtown,” said Daniel Whitener. “And we want to do 36 more if we can.”
