Opening of a pizzeria at the Royal Victoria Country Park

VISITORS to a popular nature park in Hampshire can now also enjoy pizza thanks to the arrival of a new restaurant.

A historic space in Royal Victoria Country Park has been completely renovated to become The Cedar Rooms restaurant.

The refurbished space will allow park visitors to enjoy handmade pizzas on the former site of Netley Hospital.

Hampshire County Council leader Cllr Rob Humby opened the restaurant last month.

He said: “The opening of The Cedar Rooms restaurant marks the final phase of this transformation programme, offering a stunning new restaurant set in a historic building in Royal Victoria Country Park which has been completely refurbished.

“The Cedar Rooms pizzeria serves a delicious family menu, with lots of local produce, which is also a welcome boost for local vendors.”

The Cedar Rooms building was constructed in 1940 by the YMCA and was originally used for entertainment, recreation and relaxation by staff and patients of the Old Hospital.

Today it houses a restaurant which serves a selection of handmade sourdough pizzas in a traditional style pizza oven, as well as ice cream and other refreshments.

Local produce on offer includes Jude’s Ice Cream in Twyford, pork pies from Jake’s Artisan Foods based in Petersfield, Sunbeam Watercress located in Romsey and Roasted Mozzo Coffee in Southampton.

With a focus on managing coffee in an eco-friendly way, customers will be served compostable coffee cups and reusable pizza boxes to reduce waste, with recycling bins also on site.
